Dan Flavin (April 1, 1933, Jamaica, New York – November 29, 1996, Riverhead, New York) was an American minimalist artist famous for creating sculptural objects and installations from commercially available fluorescent light fixtures.
In the early ’60s he began to experiment with the use of fluorescent lights mounted on painted wood armatures. He became one of the first Minimalists, concerned with real space as a formal device, industrial materials, and simplified forms. He used factory-made fluorescent lights in standard lengths and colours, thereby taking light as a found object. Flavin would use this basic format for the rest of his career, varying the number and scale of his pieces on the basis of space.

«Jerzy Duda-Gracz painter, illustrator, graphic artist and scenographer. Born on March 20th, 1941 in Częstochowa. Died on November 5th, 2004 in Łagów.He graduated from the Graphic Faculty at the Katowice-branch of the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków.
Duda-Gracz's art contains elements of both grotesque and irony on one hand and of sentimentalism and nostalgia on the other. The latter derives from a world which, in the painter's own words, 'departs, dies, which has more in common with the world of dreams, childhood memories' – the 'post-industrial landscape world'. He is, however, known primarily for works with more bitter overtones which comment on the socio-political reality of the past decades, beginning with the communist-era Poland and ending with the beginnings of the transformation.»

Franciszek Andrzej Bobola Biberstein-Starowieyski (July 8, 1930, in Bratkówka, Poland – February 23, 2009) was a Polish artist.«Endowed with a baroque imagination, Starowieyski is highly adept at combining sensuous forms with intellectual messages, producing unexpected effects and shocking surrealist visions. His art is exquisitely ornamental and uses a plethora of unique metaphors and an individual system of signs originating from his beloved baroque esthetics. His paintings reveal a fascination with the sensuous, Rubensian female bodies and convey a reflection on passing and death. Saturated with grotesque and humour, his art combines the real world with creations of his rampant imagination and makes ostentatious references to the 17th century masters. Thornton Dial (American, 1928–2016) was a self-taught artist from Emelle, AL, known for his large-scale assemblages that address issues of racism, war, and homelessness.
Thornton Dial was a pioneering African-American artist best known for his large-scale assemblage paintings. He melded complex themes like Civil Rights history, archaeology, and construction, through the use of materials like cow skeletons, American flags, and rebar. Often referred to as an “outsider artist,” Dial’s work is highly biographical. Born on September 10, 1928 in Emelle, AL, Dial's youth was filled with hardship, born into poverty on a sharecropping farm. Though he never received any formal art training, he made sculptures from found objects from a young age.

Ursula Schultze-Bluhm: A leading German painter and etcher of the latter twentieth century Ursula Schultze-Bluhm moved to Berlin in 1938 and began her art studies there. With the commencement of the Second World War (1939-1945) she was ordered to work in the government bureaucracy and then returned to her studies and began exhibiting her art after the war in the Amerika-Haus-Programme (1945-1953).Ursula Schultze-Bluhm first visited Paris in 1951. Shortly thereafter her work came to the attention of Jean Dubuffet who in 1954 featured her prints and paintings in his famous 'Musee de l'Art Brut'. In the following year (1955) she married another leading German etcher, Bernard Schultze. Together the artists lived and worked not only in Germany and France but in New York and Washington (1964-1967), Leningrad (1970), Ceylon and Thailand (1973), Mexico and Guatemala (1975), and Hong Kong and Bali (1977).Ursula Schultze-Bluhm's first solo exhibition took place in Frankfurt in 1954. After that date her art was the subject of many exhibitions in cities such as Paris, Hanover, Heidelberg, Dusseldorf, Munich, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Basel and Vienna.Like the art of her husband, Ursula Schultze-Bluhm dedicated her work to the creation of a private universe or individual mythology. Memories, unconscious associations and fantasies play key roles in her great, Surrealist art. Selbst Portrait is one of her finest works of graphic art.

Robert Ryman (May 30, 1930 – February 8, 2019) was an American painter identified with the movements of monochrome painting, minimalism, and conceptual art. He was best known for abstract, white-on-white paintings.He lived and worked in New York City. Ryman was often classified as a minimalist; but, he preferred to be known as a «realist», because, he was not interested in creating illusions, but, only in presenting the materials he used in compositions at their face value. As he wrote in a statement for a 2010 exhibition at Pace Wildenstein, «I am not a picture painter. I work with real light and space, and since real light is an important aspect of the paintings, it always presents some problems.»The majority of his works feature abstract expressionist-influenced brushwork in white or off-white paint on square canvas or metal surfaces. A lifelong experimenter with media, Ryman painted and/or drew on canvas, linen, steel, aluminum, plexiglas, lumasite, vinyl, fiberglass, corrugated paper, burlap, newsprint, wallpaper, jute sacking, fiberplate, a composite material called gator board, feather board, handmade paper, and acrilivin.

Ronald Lockett (1965–1998) was an American visual artist, combining painting with three dimensional objects. “Lockett’s primary artistic mentor” was the painter Thornton Dial, his cousin.
“Ronald Lockett was born and lived in the “Pipe Shop” neighborhood of Bessemer, Alabama. He graduated from high school but stayed at home and pursued no trade; he always knew he wanted to be an artist. Lockett learned to paint by watching television and observing Dial, who became his mentor.His early works are paintings on plywood, commonly using a palette of black, white and red. His style is naturalistic; however, his figures flicker between representation and abstraction. Often, he would choose animals as his subjects and like the Dial family artists, animals were sometimes used as surrogates for humans. He began to add elements of collage to his paintings, using found objects such as wire, cloth, nails, and fencing to add texture to his surfaces.”
