Wayne Shilson

" I work in the style of pointillism as did Georges Seurat, Camille Pissarro and Paul Signac. My paintings are also noted for their detailed “realism” which requires patience when painting in this style and is unique.  I particularly enjoy capturing a scene in such a way as to draw the viewer into the scene....'

Huang Yong Pīng - Avant-garde Conceptual Art

Huang Yong Pīng ( 1954 – 2019) was a Chinese-French contemporary artist and one of the most well known Chinese Avant-garde artists of his time. Born in Xiamen, he was recognized as the most controversial and provocative artist of the Chinese art scene of the 1980s.“Huang Yong Ping, a Conceptual artist and pioneering figure of China’s post-Cultural Revolution avant-garde, whose controversial work often depicted the world as a Darwinian power struggle.
Alexandra Munroe, the senior curator of Asian art at the Guggenheim Museum in New York, said the cause was a brain hemorrhage.
Huang was a conceptualist with a powerful visual imagination; in some sense he was also a contemporary version of the scholar-artist of Chinese tradition. A wide reader in philosophy, European and non-European, he infused his art with his learning and wisdom.

Marisa Merz - Italian Contemporary Art - Arte Povera

Marisa Merz (1926 –2019) was an Italian artist and sculptor. In the 1960s, Merz was the only female protagonist associated with the radical Arte povera movement. In 2013 she was awarded the prestigious Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale. She lived and worked in Turin, Italy. Working with both traditional and non-traditional materials, the artist’s works often blur the categorization of domestic objects—blankets, bowls of salt, and boots—with art objects, such as sculpted heads and painted angels. “

Cadillac Ranch - Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels

Cadillac Ranch is a public art installation and sculpture in Amarillo, Texas, USA. It was created in 1974 by Chip Lord, Hudson Marquez and Doug Michels, who were a part of the art group Ant Farm. It consists of what were (when originally installed during 1974) either older running used or junk Cadillac automobiles, representing a number of evolutions of the car line (most notably the birth and death of the defining feature of mid twentieth century Cadillacs: the tailfins) from 1949 to 1963, half-buried nose-first in the ground, at an angle purportedly corresponding to that of the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt.

Mattia Moreni

“Mattia Moreni was born in Pavia in 1920 and died in Brisighella  in 1999. Between the mid-1980s and mid-1990s, the artist devoted himself to self-portraits, with a series of Autoritratti denouncing an evolution in themes and language, accompanied by handwritten scripts of the image with no chronological correspondence to the images (dealing with his past, but also a hypothetical future). In this phase, the force of expression, rather than identification of the actual psychosomatic features, continued to take precedence The relations between image, background and script would continue to be simplified, resulting in the essential Umanoidi (1993) figures, a vast series of works displayed in two solo shows in 1994-95 in which the features consist of a technological box, alluding to a computer, which replaces the person’s face and mind..”

Laura Aguilar - Human Nature

Laura Aguilar ( 1959 –  2018) was an American photographer. She was born with auditory dyslexia and attributes her start in photography to her brother who showed her how to develop in dark rooms. She was mostly self-taught although she took some photography courses at East Los Angeles College where her second solo exhibition Laura Aguilar: Show and Tell was held. She is well known for her portraits, mostly of herself and also focused upon people in marginalized communities — Latino subjects and obese people.

Salvatore Scarpitta

Salvatore Scarpitta ( 1919–2007) is celebrated for his sculptural renderings of objects in motion.
«Italian-American artist Salvatore Scarpitta’s multimedia oeuvre remained on the fringes of most defined movements of his time, despite associations with both Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. Scarpitta’s work employed a certain brand of Americana combined with an Arte Povera sensibility, resulting in paintings and sculptures that are emotive and overarchingly hopeful.»

Greg Dorosh - Frozen River

Frozen River
13" x 20" Oil on canvas.
This is a scene of Canmore Alberta, Canada when I was there back in 2016. It was -20 degrees C which was cold enough to start creating ice on the surface of this fast flowing river. The time of the day provided a beautiful view of the sun just above the Rocky Mountains.

Philadelphia Wireman

The Philadelphia Wireman is the working name given to an unknown outsider artist responsible for approximately 1,200 small-scale wire-frame sculptures that were found by a passerby, abandoned on a street outside a transient home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1982.The artist is assumed to have access to tools required to bend some of the heavy-gauge wire in the sculptures; it is hypothesised that the sculptures were abandoned after their creator's death. Nothing is known about the artist's motives. Many of the pieces resemble African art, and this plus the demographics of the neighborhood where the art collection was found cause some reviewers to speculate that the artist was African-American
